6 Ways to Increase your iPad Battery Life

Posted by Michael Anderegg on

After you have used your iPad for a while you may notice that it does not hold its charge as well as it used to. There are ways to prevent your iPad from losing performance metrics.

Here is some tips on what you need to do in order to keep your battery healthy.

Always Update Your Software

The best way to keep your battery healthy is to always upgrade to the latest version of iOS. Even though the updates may not mention anything about battery life. Often the techs upgrade the firmware to utilize battery life more efficiently. Such as “Low Power Mode”. Even apps will update so that they don’t consume as much battery life while running in the background.

Decrease Your Brightness

This may be the best way to keep your battery lasting longer between charges. Full brightness on screens if you constantly use your iPad could cause the most of your battery drainage. Decrease the brightness just a hair and you will be surprised how much longer it will last.

Charge Smarter

Most people wait to charge their devices at the last minute when the device is completely drained. Try charging your devices for shorter periods of time and before your battery gets below 20% and never let it die completely.

Stop Multitasking

When you are using and app and click the home button to open another app the last app did not close completely. It is now running in the background. To maximize battery make sure if you actually need the app open or not. If you do not need that last app open double click the home button and swipe up on all the apps running in the background that you do not need for multi-tasking.

Location, Location, Location

Most people have their location services running in the background and never use it. If you are one of those people that is not constantly using Maps or other location necessary apps then go into your settings and shut off “Location Services” under “Privacy” tab.

Other Connections

If you are not using your iPad on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth go ahead and shut those off in your “Settings”. You can see what’s on or you can easily swipe up from the bottom of your screen and you will see an Airplane icon, Wi-Fi icon, and Bluetooth icons. Go ahead and deselect anything that is highlighted that you are not using especially if you have a Cellular iPad attached to a data plan through AT&T, Verizon, etc.
